Masonry Material Inspection Checklist for Quality Brickwork ✅ Bricks / Blocks

  • Use good-quality burnt clay bricks with a uniform red color. Avoid overburnt, underburnt, cracked, or damaged bricks.

  • Fly ash or AAC (autoclaved aerated concrete) blocks should have a uniform size and shape with no broken or powdery edges.

  • Check water absorption: after soaking for 1 hour, bricks should absorb less than 20% of their weight.

  • Bricks should have a minimum compressive strength of 3.5 N/mm².

✅ Mortar Mix

  • Use a 1:6 mix of cement and sand for brick masonry.

  • Use clean M-sand or river sand (Zone II or Zone III), properly sieved to remove impurities.

✅ Before Laying Bricks

  • Soak bricks in clean water for at least 30 minutes before use to improve bonding with the mortar.
